During Joseon Era, Anseong was the origin of and home to Namsadang, a hub of Korea’s popular culture. Anseong city holds this festival every year since 2001 in order to pass down Namsadang traditional culture and the artistic spirit of “Baudeogi”.

We have reproduced the ancient market of Joseon Era for your experience and learning. There are more than 200 events scheduled to be held throughout the festival period including the ‘National Baudeogi Pungmul Contest’ where more than 1,500 performers participate. 'Baudeogi' is a woman who, after becoming the Kkoktusoe or Chief of Namsadang as a woman in the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty for the first time in the nation, has led the Namsadang troupe.

Baudeogi enjoyed full popularity through her unique talents, promoted Namsadang troupe to a level of the nation’s best public performance group, while she remained as the mother of entertainment and a performance. Baudeogi even now teaches us the value of the Namsadang culture as a woman who had glorified Joseon Dynasty, providing a ability to bring Namsadang performance to a world-level culture of Korea.
